We are so honored and grateful that the city of Brookland and Brookland Police Department has trusted us to take care of K9 Officer BOLO’s arrangements.

K9 Officer BOLO was more than a police dog—he was a loyal partner, a devoted protector, and a beloved member of the law enforcement family. His unwavering courage, faithful service, and unconditional loyalty touched countless lives and helped keep our community safe.

We are privileged to help honor BOLO's life and legacy with the dignity and respect he so richly deserves. Our hearts are with his handler, fellow officers, family, and everyone mourning this tremendous loss.

Hathcoat Funeral Services announces the Arrangements as follows,

Visitation services will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Woods Chapel Baptist Church, 175 Dixie Road, Brookland, Arkansas 72417.

A law enforcement officers-only visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., followed by a public visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Family, friends, fellow officers, and members of the community are invited to come honor and celebrate the life and service of K9 Officer BOLO.

In Loving Memory of K9 Officer BOLO

On July 18, 2026, at the age of five, K9 Officer BOLO passed away, leaving behind a legacy of courage, loyalty, and countless memories that will be shared for generations.

Born in the Netherlands on June 30, 2021, BOLO was destined for a life of purpose. He made his way to Brookland, Arkansas, where he proudly served the Brookland Police Department as a dual-purpose K9 trained in narcotics detection and apprehension.

BOLO began his career alongside his first handler, Officer Josh Whitley. Together they built the foundation of BOLO's remarkable career through countless hours of training, patrol, and unwavering teamwork. While BOLO was a dedicated working dog, life away from the badge was just as important. Josh and his family loved him as one of their own, making sure he was spoiled with ice chips on hot Arkansas days, pup cups whenever they could, and all the love a K9 could ask for. To them, BOLO wasn't just a police dog—he was family.

Later in his career, BOLO found his forever partner in Officer Cody Ladner. Their bond quickly became one that only a K9 handler can truly understand. They spent countless hours together working, training side by side, riding patrol, and returning home together at the end of every shift. BOLO wasn't simply Cody's partner; he was his teammate, protector, and best friend.

When BOLO was working, he meant business. Focused, driven, and always ready for the next assignment, he gave everything he had to protect the citizens of Brookland. But once the vest came off, he was simply BOLO—a goofy, ball-loving dog with a gentle heart and a personality that could make anyone smile.

If you ever wanted to see BOLO's tough-guy image disappear, all it took was for Cassie to be near. The fearless police K9 quickly became the biggest baby in the house. Surrounded by the love of Cody, Cassie, Josh, and Josh's family, BOLO enjoyed life just as much as he loved serving his community.

BOLO never did anything halfway. Whether he was chasing a ball, tracking a suspect, or training with his handlers, he gave it 110 percent. Sometimes... maybe a little too much. One of his most unforgettable moments came during training when, overcome with excitement, he enthusiastically bit a boat instead of the intended target. It became one of those stories that never stopped making everyone laugh and perfectly captured BOLO's all-in personality.

BOLO leaves behind his handlers, Officer Josh Whitley and Officer Cody Ladner; Cody's wife, Cassie; Josh's family, who loved him dearly; the men and women of the Brookland Police Department; and a grateful community that is safer because of his faithful service.

Though BOLO's watch has ended, his legacy will continue through every life he touched, every officer he protected, and every smile he brought to those who knew him. His paw prints will forever remain on the hearts of his family, friends, fellow officers, and the community he faithfully served.
