Charles David Johnston

Charles David Johnston, age 79, of Marmaduke, Arkansas, passed away peacefully in his home on June 9, 2026. He was born on January 25, 1947, in Paragould, Arkansas.

Charles was a proud veteran who served his country in the United States Army. Throughout his life, he was known for his strong work ethic and spent many years self-employed as a carpenter. He was a skilled craftsman who could build or repair nearly anything and took great pride in working with his hands. In his free time, Charles enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, mechanical work, and spending time outdoors.

More than anything, Charles treasured his family. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and love that will continue through the generations that follow him.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, General Jack Johnston and Lottie Velena Canamore Johnston; his sisters, Aldean Rhein, Alapha Flotard, and Hazel Young; and his brothers, Leroy Johnston, Nathan Johnston, Kenneth Johnston, Jack Johnston, Jerry Johnston, and Robert Johnston.

He is survived by his four sons: David Johnston and wife Tammy; Kevin Johnston; Keith Johnston and wife Melissa; and Troy Johnston and wife Michelle. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Hannah Herren of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; Abbigail Horton of Paragould, Arkansas; Mariah Akers of Paragould, Arkansas; Adam Johnston and his girlfriend Kaitlyn Mason of Arbyrd, Missouri; Jacob Johnston of Paragould, Arkansas; Timothy Johnston of Lansing, Michigan; Gage Johnston of Paragould, Arkansas; Makenna Johnston of Paragould, Arkansas; Chelci Lowary and husband Russell of Paragould, Arkansas; and Trevor Poole of Delaplaine, Arkansas. Charles was also blessed with 17 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him great joy.

Those who knew Charles will remember his quiet strength, his willingness to lend a helping hand, and the pride he took in providing for his family. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

The family finds comfort in the words of Psalm 23:

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul..."

May the promise of God's guidance, comfort, and peace bring strength to all who mourn his passing.

Charles will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
